Knight Online Mage Guide

2010 - 2 - 6

Well Tifa already covered paper mages, and there's a small start in the guides already, so I'll pick up where everyone else

left off. There are other types of paper mages too but they're much more rare. Paper ice mages can be good because in

addition to slowing the enemy down, you can still do decent damage. Paper light mages are very uncommon, but have

several advantages. In pk, you can stun the enemy completely while hitting for some nice damage (light blade hits for

200+ dmg while keeping the enemy stunned). Also, since there are so few paper light mages, the best staff (lupus staff)

that you can use is much cheaper. That's about it for paper mages - check out Tifa's guide for armor and items.

Then there are half paper mages. These mages usually go up to either a mythril staff (around 110 int) or an elemental

staff (around 125 int). While still hitting harder than a normal mage, these mages have a little more mana and can use

level 2 or 3 armor, giving them more defense. The mages that use the elemental staff with lvl 3 armor can also use the

level 45 item that gives a small hp bonus. The weapons and armor should be the same as a paper mage since they are

relatively cheap (+6/10 or +7/12 mp and hp armor, +7/56 staff).

The more common of all the builds are the normal mages. These are mages that put in about 160 points into int so they

can use crimson and complete armors, along with salamander and elixer staffs. These mages end up having much more

defense and mana, and can actually hit for close to a paper mage in damage because of the stronger staffs.

A normal fire mage should go for +6/10 mp crimson to start (Since you're fire, the main priority is damage). Then move

up to +7/12 crimson later or even +6/10 complete armor at level 60. And of course, the staffs you use should go up by

grades as you level up (alchemy-->elemental-->viper-->salamander-->elixer) All of the normal mages have some

problems such as a large cost with armor and staffs, but it can still be worth it. Paper mages can have around 200

defense if they have very good items. Normal mages however can break 500 defense with good crimson or average

complete armors. Paper mages may be able to break 2000 mana at level 60, while normal mages usually have over 4000

mana by then.

It's also important to understand the basics of the elements before you make your mage. Fire does the most damage, ice

does the second most and slows the enemy down and light does the least but can stop the enemy in its tracks

sometimes. There are 3 more common combinations of this. Fire/ice, ice/light, and light/ice. Fire should not be used as a

secondary because it's only for doing damage. As a secondary skill, you won't get the better skills until much later, so the

damage wouldn't matter anyway. If fire is your main skill, most people like to slow the enemy down enough with ice so

they can hit hard with a fire skill then run back and attack with more spells. If ice is your main skill, you don't want to use

fire as your secondary, leaving light as your best choice. The same goes for light mages.

As for items, the better mages have 2 sets of items, just like they have 2 sets of armor. Hp and mp armor goes with hp

and mp gear. A good mage should have a set of at least +6/10 hp and mp armor along with either uniques or +9 items.

The best uniques include Rings of Magic, crystal rings, crystal belts, crystal amulets, mage earrings, lycaon pendants, and

other items that give defense, magic power, or hp bonuses.

That's about all there is to mages. There are just a few more little things that you learn as you go such as "a wizard staff

+7/56 won't hit for as much as an elixer staff +6/48" or "the level 45 aoe spells actually hit for the same amount or less

than the level 33 aoe spells. They just have a much greater range". Lastly, try to get any scrolls that you need for your

mages. People may look at a fire blast scroll for well over 20m or an impact scroll for almost 40m and decide not to get

them. They really are worth it!
